I’d spent a few days having my ears entertained at the Flow festival and now it was time for the eyes to be similarly dazzled. For most of my time there I did not see any significant street art so if I wanted to see some I’d have to go searching. My quest was inspired by what I had seen in Paris just prior to arrival there but also the graffiti on display at HAM. Just walking around randomly wasn’t going to be very efficient so I turned to the most reliable source for local info I knew, the google. Sad, but true. I was able to hunt down a site (Helsinki urban art) that provided me some options for locations. However, when I arrived in Pasila I didn’t see anything pixel worthy and time was short. Fortunately after a digging down a few more levels into the site I was able to find a map with thumbnails of the art in the area. And with that I was off and walking.
There was quite the mix of styles to be found and, while I like vibrant colors, I was drawn more to the black and white images which were impactful despite their spectral simplicity.
The ones below really used perspective well. If you stood in just the right spot you’d see what was the object of their torment. If you didn’t, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
