This is one of those unexpected finds that you just happen upon. I was living in Berkeley for a few years before I ventured above Memorial Stadium on my bike looking for a little adventure and a bit more of a workout. It’s no wonder that not that many people go out of the way to get to the Botanical Gardens on a bike. That gradual ascent was a killer. I’ll definitely have to ramp up my regimen if I plan to be ready for the next Tour (de San Jose). Once I had recovered from the exertion, I couldn’t help but whip it out (Nikon D90) and start snapping.
When I think of Santa Cruz, surf, sand, and deep fried twinkies come to mind; not botanicals. Well, surprise, surprise. Flowers be blossoming and the UCSC Arboretum. I actually went there capture some humming birds. Since they were just too fast for my butterfly net, I had to settle for more sedentary quarry. Flowers it was. It’s pretty had to take a crappy picture of a flower, but I can assure you that I succeeded spectacularly. Fortunately for you, I skimmed off the cream and served it up here.
I’m sure I’ll be taking more floral snaps in the future, but that’s it for now. I’ll leave you with just a few more. The middle one was taken just off Highway 1, north of Point Reyes area. I thought it turned out quite well. Little shack by the coast. The other two have fallen, but retain much of their beauty.
