Galway was grand, but time was tickin and the return to Dublin awaited. Rather than going straight West, we decided to make a bit of a loop and hit a few more pixel worth sights. One noteworthy stop was Aughnanure Castle. Not quite Game of Thrones worthy, but impressive just the same. Gives one a taste for what it must have been like to live in one of those places. Primitive as it was, I suspect it was pretty luxurious in its day compared to what the locals had to endure.
There were lots of little pockets of water to explore. It would have been nice to continue trekking up the coast, but that will have to wait for the next to trip to the Emerald ilse.
I had heard wonderful things about Kylemore Abbey and made sure that I had an extra memory card for my camera at the ready before arriving. But, when I did, to my horror, the abbey was cocooned in scaffolding. What the heck? The place was apparently undergoing some much needed maintenance on the facade. Why couldn't they do that in the off season? Oh wait. There is no real off season. There weren't even any nuns or monks running around. You'd think they'd at least have to tend to the brewery or something. Oh well. I ended up focusing more on the Gothic Church, which was quite the shrine and a stunning tribute to the original owner's wife.
Last stop before heading back to Dublin.
