It seems like I had just been north of the border, when I found myself there once again. After hardly traveling at all in the last few years, here I was racking up the Aeroplan miles. I was in Quebec City for a friend’s celebration of life. So it was both sad and not so sad at the same time. It was an opportunity to reconnect with friends that I hadn’t seen in almost forty years. I was thinking it would be awkward with so much having happened in all of our lives since last we’d met, but it was surprisingly comfortable. The same traits and characteristics were there, even if there wasn’t quite the same vigor. What it also allowed me to do was explore more of the city. While it’s not old in the same way as Amsterdam or Vienna, it is much more seasoned than most cities in North America and there is lots of charm to be found just off the slightly beaten path.
Despite it’s age, the Imperial Bell still shows signs of splendor. I didn’t have a chance to see a show there, but it is now on my radar, bookmarked for my next visit.
Some of the old gang decided to enhance opportunities for quality time by sharing an AirBnB in the heart of the city. While the place itself was comfortable and had a balcony with a view, it was the roof deck that really left an impression. It would have been nice if it was a little more lively, but the privacy of having the place to ourselves wasn’t so bad either.
I was only there for a long weekend, but enjoyed returning to QC again for a slightly different perspective on the place. Didn’t spend a lot of time near the water so it was nice to catch some glimpses on my way to the airport.
I once again found myself in Toronto, which is where it all began (origin story). Even though I’m from there, every time I return, there’s always something new to discover. Sometimes it’s just seeing some of the same sights in new ways. Either way, there are plenty of opportunities to capture moments of vibrancy. My preference is the summer, but even winter has something to offer (beyond the crispness of the air).
Kensington market always has a happening vibe, especially if you’re looking for something vintage. There are plenty of options to find something that shouts “You” alongside other forms of expression that adorns the many surfaces that are within spray can reach.
