Bern had quite the historic center that was not in the slightest diminished by all the sleek, new streetcars that zipped around. I was tempted to hop on board and allow myself to be whisked away to some distant part of town. Since I really had no idea where they were heading, I opted to stick with walking, which turned out to be an excellent choice. All the flags, statues on pillars, and fountains were quite an impressive display.

It was a bit of a hike to get there, but it was well worth it for the view. Not only was the cityscape very picturesque, there was also a park bursting with color that was begging to have its Kodak moment.
There were images of bears everywhere (and it had that name), but I had no idea that they actually had live bears within the city limits. It was a little sad that they were so shamelessly on display, but they did seem to be sufficiently satisfied with the situation. At least they weren’t out in the wild where they might be prey for some wily orange-clad hunter.
